Blogger's Quilt Festival

http://amyscreativeside.com/2010/10/29/bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2010/ Here's my quilt for the Blogger's Quilt Festival entry. Click on the link above the picture to learn more about it.

I made this quilt for a friend. He daughter was hit by a car and killed almost exactly a year ago. This quilt took me a really long time to make. It wasn't hard to make, but it was the most difficult quilt I've ever made. You see, Helena was 12, the same age as my son was when she died. She was a beautiful girl and so full of life. She was coming home from a friend's house and crossing the street on her roller blades and the car didn't see her because it was dark outside.

Every time I tried to work on the quilt, I would cry. I was so emotionally drained after each sewing session. One day when I was cutting out squares, my little guy who was 5 at the time, came up to me and asked if he could help me. I wanted to just put the pieces of clothes away and he really helped me finish up the task of cutting everything into the squares for the quilt.

A lot of prayers went into the making of this quilt and I know that it brought the mother lots of comfort.

I did a similar for a young man that I knew. It was hardest when I had to cut up a shirt that he loved and wore all the time. That night I made one cut...put it up for a week before I could finish cutting it again. But, it really touched his mother!

I am sure your quilt was a blessing as well.
