Libya and open doors

Have you ever heard the expression when God closes a door, he opens a window somewhere else?

Well, yesterday it seemed like God was closing doors on me. I was looking for some windows and I tell you, He was opening Barn Doors instead!

If you watch the news for even 5 minutes you probably realize that there is trouble in the middle east. I remember when I was in the 7th grade, I did a report on where oil is found and how it formed. My dad had lots of rock samples and I had a super awesome project and the last line of the presentation was, "It remains to be seen what will happen in the Middle East as oil becomes the means to World Power and Powerful Nations Demand more oil." That was back in about 1979 and still rings true today. With all of the trouble in Libya, the focus of the Air Force has shifted from helping Japan to protecting and defending in Libya in just a week. My friends who were going to be making multiple trips to Japan are now going to be making multiple trips to Germany. What? That isn't helpful! They are scrambling to see if some of their friends will be going to Japan, but it is looking like the Air Force in Hawaii will be helping those in Japan and our efforts will be going elsewhere.

Ok, time for plan B! I sent an email to the Mayor. Why not? I got a phone call a couple of hours later and this was the great news. He has a friend who is a pilot for United Airlines. His wife is from Japan. The pilot flies to Tokyo! The Mayor is going to coordinate the efforts to get the quilts on the planes for us. Once in Japan, we have a sister city in Japan, Nirasaki and our mayor will coordinate with their mayor to get the quilts delivered where they need to be. How cool is that?

The mayor used to be a teacher at my high school. He worked in the same department as my husband. I met him when my daughter got a really great scholarship. He is a really nice guy and I'm so glad that he is going to be helping us out on this project.

Yesterday I spent cleaning up and organizing the quilts that are ready to go. I have 51 quilts so far and more that need to be counted. There are at least that many quilt tops. I just wish I had more hours in the day!

Quilt day is Wed and Sunday of this week. If you live near Vacaville, Ca and want to help out, let me know! I will be working on Wednesday and in So. Cal on Sunday so will miss both days :( My oldest daughter has a chance to get her 100th college tennis win on Monday! Woo Hoo.

This is wonderful that God has His hand on this and is making things work out so well. And you have so many quilts already that is great!

I'll have to admit I almost skipped reading this post having had more than my fill of Libya in the news. However, I'm so glad I didn't. What a relief to find a new way to get all those fabulous quilts into the hands of those who need them most ... where there's a will ... :)
