Helping the kids of Japan

Last night, I was looking at pictures on the internet of the devistation, the one picture that stuck in my mind was two men pulling a small boat full of children down a street. There were probably 10 children in the boat and they all looked so scared.

I woke up this morning and thought, how can I help? Well, what do I do best? I make quilts.

I have a friend whose husband flies planes for the air force and he left this morning for Japan. He is taking supplies over to help. He comes back this week and I am sure he will be making many more trips because it will take a long time to recover and clean up from this tragedy.

So, I am calling on all of my local friends to dig out their fabric and get busy making quilts. I'm also making a wake up call to myself to dust off my machine and get busy myself. Time to stop feeling sorry for myself and push this headache aside. No more time for headaches. Do you hear me? There are kids hurting and needing hugs.

Stay tuned for lots of quilting over the next few weeks.

I'm hoping to collect lots and lots of quilts to send to the hurting children of Japan.

I'm also hoping to get some donations from some of the big companies. Stay tuned. I'm polishing off my letter writing skills. I've written a few grants in my day. I'm hoping for some donations to help this cause to make things go a little quicker.

EDIT: Do you want to help? It looks like this is a GO! If you have quilt tops sitting around that are kid size (36 inch up to 48x48 or so) and would like to send them out way, please email me for my address! We will take all we can get to help the kids of Japan! Thanks.

Very good for you. I am so backed up with my charity quilts now..but maybe I can get some extra made. No promises because I am stressing(about quilt deadlines) now as it is.

I've been looking for someone who has started something for quilting for the people in Japan, and I'm so glad I ran across your blog! I have a quilt top and back that just need to be finished into a quilt. I can send it your way when it is done. :)
