Anybody else out there...

suffer from migraines? I get them less often now that I'm on a daily med, but when I get them they sure do suck the life out of me. This one started yesterday and has been building all day today. I've tried every trick in the books, ibuprofen, caffeine, tylenol, psuedefed, exercise, hot bath, nap, dark room, folding fabric :) washing dishes, cooking dinner and am about to resort to the most dreaded thing, the migraine meds that knock me out.

I hate migraines! But if I had to pick a thorn in my side, there are a lot worse things to deal with. I just really have better things to do than sit around all day in pain.

What other things have you tried if you suffer from migraines?

I am so sorry! I've actually resorted to laying with an ice pack on my forehead ...! Yes it did help but oh my goodness I wanted to carve out my eyeballs my head hurt so bad! I've narrowed my migrains down to consuming too much sugar for the most part so they come less often, but dear, I feel your pain and bless your heart! I'll check in with you tomorrow and hope you are doing better!

I see from your list you haven't tried Excedrin Migrain. I use that when my headaches start getting too bad. How about a nice cuppa tea loaded with a huge shot of Grey Goose :) ... take care! ~hugs~

I have had them about 40 years. Elavil daily at night for "prevention", Maxalt MLT when I have them. Timing of the Maxalt is tricky - not too soon, not to late. I've also tried all the things you've listed. It is worse if I try to sew all day, instead of varying activities. If you are not asthmatic, there are some other "prevention" drugs they can try. There are a lot of triggers out there. Try to figure yours out and avoid them if possible. I used to do the bed, dark room thing, but now usually just work through them. Good luck.

I'm with Wendy, as I use Excedrin Migraine. I usually take one and go back to bed with the sheet pulled over my head and the TV on really low. A couple hours later when I wake up, it's gone.

I have had migraines since I was 12. I used to have them once a month regular as clockwork and could find nothing that helped. I have tried all the OTC drugs in the past but with no luck. Several years ago my dr prescribed IMITREX (the drug is sumitriptin). I swear by this stuff. I have had some seriously I would rather give birth to triplets upside down and backwards headaches and this stuff really knocks them out. It comes in injections or pills. I use the injections because it works faster. Couple of minutes and POOFFFFFFF its goooonnnneee!! Best stuff.

Excedrine Migrane is the best, just discoverd it a few years ago, if you catch it before it gets started..... I do hope you get to feeling better.

Ah yes I do have them too...I take quite a few daily meds a neurologist prescribed for me as well as triptan when they show up anyways. I always try to get 8 hours of sleep because less can bring them on, but basically it has something to do with my hormones and they have been worse the last eight years or so. The trick for me is to catch them early or prevent them with the dailies..once I get one it is often DAYS before it truly goes away (the triptan makes them rebound for me)

This has been recommended to me by a nurse practitioner.. 2 tylenol, 2 ibuprofen, and 2 aleve all together. My stomach prefers if I allow about 15 minutes between each kind, but it works better for me than my migraine medicine.
THe other odd thing I've noticed is that they seem to be almost communal... I battled one yesterday and won, but seeing you had one and so did 2 facebook friends in opposite corners of the States makes me wonder.Hope you find relief!

Makes you wonder about the moon and where it is in "it's" cycle. Have done all that you do..... taking the meds early but waiting to make sure it IS a migrain is what works best for me.... and not beating myself up because I have not figured out what I am doing to CAUSE them..... thought: it just might not be me causing them. Have felt your pain....

What I wanted to do was tell you how much I enjoyed your stash cutting ideas, they seemed "real" and like they would use up fabric rather than create more scrapes.... I would compost the dog beds when you are finished as a bed, works very similiar to the fabric path, cotton back into the earth, etc.

Sounds like you're trying it all! I take take Caffergot for the worst of my migraines and it helps (but not always) without leaving me drugged.

Sometimes laying down with stupid tv shows turned on low at least helps distract me from the pain. And sometimes the distraction of getting out the house helps.

I used to get migraines every month, sometimes more. The Excedrin Migraine was not working so well anymore and I was scared of daily meds, so I read up on migraine triggers. Turns out that tomatoes (which I really love) and other plants in the nightshade family were my triggers. So I avoid anything with these in them as much as possible. Now my only migraines come from seasonal allergies and I have maybe 1 or 3 a year. Then I take valium and sleep until its gone.
Hope this helps you.

I have migrains for decades. Spent alot of time trying to figure out the "trigger", fix the pain, and just wanting to be dead. I am out growing them, but they are not gone. What I have learned: There is not ONE trigger. The sooner I take the imertex the better, but don't take more than you need..... I start with 1/3 of pill and if nothing happens in an hour I take a little more. I do lay down and close my eyes to let my body relax, really relax and help the meds to work. Most of the time I fall asleep for a short time. I remind myself over and over to quit beating myself up about this that and the next thing it will all be fine tomorrow. And you know when it is over I can think clearly and life is grand.
